Vice President, Product Development and Commercialization

About the Position

Med BioGene Inc. (MBI) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Vice President, Product Development and Commercialization (VP).  The VP will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work closely with other members of the executive team to provide strategic leadership and management in respect of the development and commercialization of MBI’s product candidates.

The VP will oversee MBI’s product development and commercialization strategy in light of all relevant factors, including clinical unmet need, commercial opportunity, market size, health economics and regulatory considerations. 

The VP will also have primary responsibility for, and manage, the commercial launch and follow-on activities of MBI’s product candidates, including, initially, LungExpress Dx™ in the United States under CLIA.  The VP will be responsible for outlining and managing the day-to-day operations in respect of such matters, delegating tasks to various team members and outside consultants, ensuring tasks are completed on-time and within the allocated budget and consistent with regulatory requirements.

Furthermore, the VP will participate in the initiation and direction of scientific research and development strategies, including clinical trials and studies in respect of current and potential product candidates.

About the Candidate

The VP will ideally have the following credentials and experience:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific field (molecular biology, cancer biology, genetics, genomics) with a minimum of 5 years industry experience with molecular biomarker development, molecular diagnostics or RNA profiling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of management experience, with demonstrated project management and people leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to pragmatically balance short-term requirements with long-term direction.
  • Demonstrated record of scientific accomplishment evidenced by peer-reviewed publications or scientific / research and development leadership, preferably in the diagnostics industry.
  • Scientifically creative, team-oriented, flexible and passionate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Product development experience and knowledge of the life cycle of product development.
  • Advanced understanding of existing biomarker diagnostic development process and programs.
  • Experience with CLIA and/or FDA regulatory submissions and review is valuable, but not required.

MBI is a Vancouver, British Columbia-based life science company focused on the development and commercialization of genomic-based personalized clinical laboratory diagnostic tests.

MBI’s lead product, LungExpress Dx™, is expected to be the first commercially available gene expression-based test for early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer that analyzes the molecular profile of a patient’s tumour to provide information to assist in tailoring treatment for that specific patient.  LungExpress Dx™ is the first and only gene expression-based test for non-small-cell lung cancer shown to assist in determining a patient's benefit from chemotherapy and prognosis for survival.
