Erinn B. Broshko, M.A., LL.B., M.B.A
Chief Executive Officer

Erinn B. Broshko has been MBI's Chief Executive Officer since May 2006. Prior to joining MBI, Mr. Broshko was a corporate and securities lawyer with the Vancouver law firm of Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. Mr. Broshko’s legal practice was focussed primarily on biotechnology companies and he represented clients in corporate transactions totalling in excess of $2.2 billion.

Mr. Broshko holds a B.A. (hons) and M.A. from the University of Saskatchewan, an LL.B. from Dalhousie Law School and an M.B.A. from the University of British Columbia.

Bradley W. McLean, Ph.D
Chief Scientific Officer

Bradley W. McLean, Ph.D. has been MBI's Chief Scientific Officer since August 2007, prior to which Dr. McLean was a senior scientist with MBI.  Prior to joining MBI in early 2007, Dr. McLean led the research and development of a prodrug at Twinstrand Therapeutics Inc., a clinical stage biotechnology company, to specifically target late-stage prostate cancer and the development of a chemically modified (PEGylated) variant of Twinstrand’s lead cancer therapeutic. Prior to joining Twinstrand, Dr. McLean was a post-doctoral fellow at the British Columbia Research Institute for Children's and Women's Health and InphoGene BioCommunications Inc., a private genomics and bioinformatics company, undertaking research into Ewings sarcoma, a rare pediatric cancer.

Dr. McLean holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) and an M.Sc. from Queen’s University and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia.

Sean P. Hodgins, CA, CPA
Chief Financial Officer

Sean P. Hodgins, CA, CPA (Illinois) has been MBI's Chief Financial Officer since February 2006. Mr. Hodgins was formerly a partner with Quantum Outsourcing Group LLP and has provided contract CFO and controllership services to a wide variety of private and public companies in Vancouver, California and Nevada, including LumiCyte, Inc., Mobile Operandi Communications Corp, Level4 Biometrics and BC Advantage Funds.

Mr. Hodgins worked for six years as a manager with Deloitte & Touche LLP in Vancouver and two years as a manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in San Jose, California, specializing in assurance services for technology companies.

Mr. Hodgins holds a B.Comm. from the University of British Columbia.

Melanie M. Mahtani, Ph.D.
Executive Advisor, Commercial Development

Melanie M. Mahtani, Ph.D. has been MBI's Executive Advisor, Commercial Development since September 2007.  Dr. Mahtani brings to MBI extensive experience in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine, including over 15 years in the development and commercialization of novel genomic and genetic tests and technology for human disease analysis and profiling.

Dr. Mahtani was most recently Vice President, Corporate Business Development at Panomics where, among other things, she led the company's strategic partnering activities with major diagnostics, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.  Dr. Mahtani was previously Director, Microarray Systems R&D at Amersham Biosciences (now GE Healthcare) where she was responsible for developing new global businesses in high throughput genomic analysis. 

Dr. Mahtani holds a B.Sc. and B.A. (Hons) from Brown University and a Ph.D in medical genetics from Stanford University.  Dr. Mahtani also pioneered whole genome approaches to diabetes and other complex diseases as a postdoctoral fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Genome Research.

Keith A. Gregg, M.B.A.
Senior Advisor, Commercial Development

Keith Gregg, M.B.A. has been a senior advisor to MBI since October 2007 and has over 22 years of biotechnology and healthcare industry experience.  Mr. Gregg is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JRG Ventures, LLC, a consulting firm advising high-growth companies, including MBI, in the areas of life sciences and healthcare services.  JRG Ventures has completed strategic partnering and/or licensing transactions for some of the highest profile diagnostic, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including Amgen, Aventis, Bayer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Chiron, Genentech, Genzyme, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Novartis, Pfizer, Pharmacia Upjohn, Prometheus Laboratories, Roche Laboratories, SmithKline Beecham and Zeneca.

Prior to founding JRG Ventures, Mr. Gregg held key positions at multiple biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical companies.  His management responsibilities have encompassed corporate development, financings, licensing, operations, marketing and product launches.  Mr. Gregg is an Adjunct Professor at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University.

Richard C. Cook, M.D., M.Sc., FRCSC
Executive Advisor, Cardiovascular Disease

Dr. Cook is the co-lead of MBI's cardiovascular disease biomarker program.  Dr. Cook is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of British Columbia and is an expert in complex mitral valve repair and minimally-invasive and robotic cardiac surgery.  Following his cardiac surgical training at UBC, Dr. Cook completed subspecialty fellowship training at the Hopital Pitie-Salpetriere, Paris, France with Professor Christophe Acar, and at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina with Dr. W. Randolph Chitwood Jr.

Dr. Cook is the only formally trained minimally-invasive and robotic cardiac surgeon in western Canada and is currently developing the first robotic cardiac surgery program in western Canada at Vancouver General Hospital.

He is actively involved in clinical research at the University of British Columbia as a co-investigator and collaborator in multiple clinical trials funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of British Columbia and Yukon.  Moreover, Dr. Cook is also a co-inventor and collaborator in National Institutes of Health sponsored trials of innovative technologies applicable to robotic cardiac surgery.

Dr. Cook holds an M.D. from the University of Alberta, and an M.Sc. from the University of British Columbia (UBC). 

R. Hector MacKay-Dunn, Q.C.
Corporate Secretary, Senior Partner Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP

R. Hector MacKay-Dunn, Q.C. has been MBI’s Corporate Secretary since 2005 and a director since August 2007.  He is a senior partner at the Vancouver law firm Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. Mr. MacKay-Dunn has over 25 years of experience advising senior public and early-stage private companies on corporate and general matters, complex domestic and cross-border public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions and international partnering transactions.

Mr. MacKay-Dunn is recognized by LEXPERT American Lawyer Media (2005) as one of Canada’s Top 100 Corporate Lawyers in Canada-US Cross Border Transactions and is the sole British Columbia Leading Lawyer named in the field of Technology and Biotechnology. He is chair of the BC Innovation Council, a Provincial Crown Agency; a director of Genome British Columbia; and a member of the UBC Faculty of Science Dean’s Advisory Council and the Simon Fraser University Biotech Advisory Council. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel by the British Columbia Cabinet in 2003.

Mr. Mackay-Dunn holds a B.A. and LL.B. from the University of British Columbia.
